Some of the biggest names in tennis will grace the Nottingham Tennis Centre courts next month as the Aegon Open returns to the city.

The tournament, which will play out on University Boulevard, gets underway on June 4 with the women’s draw featuring former world number ones Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki as well as Brits Johanna Konta and Laura Robson.

The men’s tournament will start on June 18 with the highest-ranked ATP star being 6ft 8ins Kevin Anderson. The South African will fancy his chances in the Notts tournament but may face competition from Jiri Vesely, who is the only man to beat world number one Novak Djokovic this year.

Last year’s champ Denis Istomin will also be returning to Nottingham to defend his Aegon Open title.

Notts TV’s Christian Hewgill caught up with Aegon Open director Rebecca James on Sportsweek:

Rebecca said: “It’s in its second year and last year was the first and really it was the start of the journey for the tournament.

“We are trying to build the reputation in particular of the tournament and the players, we want to have a long successful history.

“It’s establishing it as an event that the players want to come to and have a great experience and share their experiences to build the reputation year on year and making it stronger.”

The tournament ends on June 25 following the men’s final and you can still purchase tickets on the official website.

You can see more on the Aegon Open tonight on Sportsweek at 7pm tonight on Sky 117 and Freeview channel 7.
