Notts opening batsman Alex Hales is set to be one of the first England players to sign the new form of international contract for 2016/17.

Contracts with the ECB (England Cricket Board) were previously designed for test players with one-day and T20 specialists only receiving partial contracts.

But now those white-ball cricket specialists will get separate full time ‘white-ball contracts’ with Alex Hales being one of the first to be offered one.

Stuart Broad is also set to sign a contract with the test team and the new contracts take effect from tomorrow (Saturday October 1).

The international game is evolving rapidly and we have to keep pace

Director of England Cricket Andrew Strauss said: “We believe the restructure of the central contract system will recognise the increased focus of the shorter format and the importance that we place on this as we continue our progress towards hosting the 2019 World Cup.

“The international game is evolving rapidly, and we have to keep pace with developments on the field.

“Our game wide strategy sets out the objective of creating balance between the formats, and this is reflected by the restructure of central contracts.

“Ultimately, we are fully committed developing world class players in both red and white ball cricket to aid the goal of becoming the world’s number one team.”
