Fire crews are still fighting a large fire at an industrial site in north Nottinghamshire.

The blaze started at around 10.30am on Wednesday in a storage building at a site known as Oakham Farm near Walesby.

Crews from nine fire stations have been involved in fighting the fire, which continued to smoulder and flare on Thursday, although it is largely under control.

The blaze has caused a large cloud of smoke and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are advising residents to keep doors and windows closed during the incident.

The fire is on the site of a multi-building site known as Oakham Farm, which has a number of large industrial storage units and is around half a mile north of the village off Retford Road.

It was previously a chicken farm but a number of different businesses now use individual units at the site.

Incident commander Damien West said: “Our crews are also working with a number of other agencies including Nottinghamshire Police, Severn Trent Water, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Public Health England.

“We would like to reiterate to residents to keep doors and windows closed, and we thank them for their cooperation.”
