Forest boss Montanier on Arsenal and signing new ‘keeper Vladimir Stojkovic

Forest boss Philippe Montanier thinks Forest have earned the right to play Arsenal after their displays against Doncaster and Millwall.

Nottingham Forest were drawn against Arsenal in the EFL Cup third round last night (Wednesday August 24) in a home fixture to be played at the City Ground on September 20 or 21.

The sides will meet for the first time in 17 years where Arsenal won the last encounter, coming out as 1-0 victors at the City Ground in the Premier League on January 16 1999.

I’m very proud to welcome Arsenal to the City Ground

Forest boss Philippe Montanier said: “It’s a very good challenge and is good because we’ve played and worked hard against Doncaster and Millwall to continue the run.

“That gave us the possibility to play a top top club like Arsenal and for that everyone is really excited about that fixture.

“I’m very proud to be able to welcome Arsene Wenger and the club to the City Ground.”

With having a lot of games you meed two good goalkeepers

Montanier also said that while having more than one ‘good’ goalkeeper at a club is not something he would normally do, he believes he needs two to cope with the fixture list.

He said: “We need a good goalkeeper after Dorus [de Vries] left the club and he’s [Vladimir Stojkovic] an international goalkeeper with great experience.

“With having such a young team, it’s very important to have a goalkeeper with this experience.

“I normally prefer one goalkeeper but we know with the cup and having a lot of games that if you don’t have two good goalkeepers then it can be a problem for the squad.”
