Marlon Harewood ‘looked after Chris Bart-Williams’ and Kevin Campbell’s boots’ as a youth player at Forest

Former Forest forward Marlon Harewood revealed that he had to ‘look after Chris Bart-Williams’ and Kevin Campbell’s boots’ when he was a youth player at the City Ground.

He came through the ranks at the Reds and scored 51 goals in 181 appearances for the club from 1996 to 2003.

He then rejoined the team in 2011 for the season and made four appearances without scoring any goals.

Harewood said that it was his dad that encouraged him to sign up to the Forest youth system as soon as the offer of a trial was on the table.

Speaking on Sports Week, he said: “I was 13 years of age and I was playing in London and a scout asked me if I wanted to come up to Nottingham to have a trial.

“I had a few trials and then I signed on; I was tempted to stay in London but what I heard about Forest bringing players through the academy was that there was a high possibility to be brought through.

“My dad said to me that I could not turn down that sort of opportunity to sign for a club like Nottingham Forest.”

A few people say the goal I scored at home against Palace was the best

Harewood said that a first half performance for Forest against Stoke is one of his favourite memories of the club.

He said: “I scored four goals in the first half against Stoke and they are the goals that really stand out from my time at Forest.

“Quite a few people say the one at home against Crystal Palace was the best; I was down the by-line and I nutmegged a player, cut in and then scored in the top corner.

“That’s certainly one that sits in the minds of a lot of Forest fans for sure!”

Marlon now plays for Nuneaton Town and also runs a car company called AC13 Premier.

He said: “The company is based in Nottingham, it’s been going for seven years now and I help players to sort their cars out.

“One of my main aims was to help players out and advise them in the best possible way and when you get to my age, it’s good to think about the long term instead of the short term.

“I’ve known my business partner Andy Cole, not the football player, since I joined Forest, he sorted my first car out, we became best mates and we put our heads together and went from there really.”
