Mum’s touching campaign in memory of daughter who died on Boxing Day 2014

The mum of a young Nottingham woman who died of kidney failure on Boxing Day has raised £10,000 for charity in her memory.

Danielle Stretton, 24, was found dead at her Wilford home on December 26 2014.

She had been fighting the condition for several years and had undergone a kidney transplant, but deteriorated suddenly at home after spending Christmas Day with her family.

Since her death, her family has founded the charity Danielle’s Flutterbyes in her memory to raise money for other young people with kidney disease.

Danielle’s mum, Ruth Braddock, said: “My daughter didn’t have a chance of happiness she was lonely, she was ill, she never went out anywhere, so all we’re trying to do is put a smile on young faces and to take their minds off an illness that is not just an illness, it’s a disease you never get a cure from.

“It’s very important to me. I’ve cried three or four times even this week to know that people are running around (raising money).”

The charity gives out grants to other sufferers for days out, holidays, and to pay for equipment to make life more bearable while on treatment.

Several local businesses have also signed up to help the appeal, including TSB on Low Pavement, Nottingham, where staff have selected the organisation as their chosen charity for 2016.
