Nottinghamshire junior doctors return to work after strike

Junior doctors have returned to work around Nottinghamshire following a 24 hour strike.

But there is expected to be more action as the British Medical Association (BMA) rejected a final contract offer from the Government.

Junior doctors staged the latest walk-out on Wednesday after a row over working hours and pay.

The strike started at 8am Wednesday morning and affected around 400 patients in Nottinghamshire.

to do whatever it deems necessary

Sir David Dalton, the Government’s chief negotiator for the case, has advised the government “to do whatever it deems necessary” to end the dispute.

The Government can now enforce the controversial contract, without the BMA’s approval, to come into place in August.

The BMA have not outlined their position yet but could call for more strikes.

Health secretary Jeremy Hunt says the new deal is necessary to provide a better seven-day service across the NHS.

But the BMA says it will cut doctors’ pay and put patients at risk.
