Notts County manager John Sheridan has announced that he has cancelled the players’ Christmas party ahead of their FA Cup clash with Peterborough.

The Magpies play Posh at Meadow Lane on Sunday (December 4) with a place in the third round up for grabs where the Premier League and Championship teams are drawn in football’s most historic cup competition.

County played Boreham Wood in the first round of the cup, drew 2-2 away which forced a replay at Meadow Lane which Notts won 2-0.

The Magpies did not pick up a single league point in November in five games which has resulted in Sheridan cancelling the County Christmas party because he wants to focus on getting results.

I don’t care how the players take it

Sheridan said: “I want to get back to winning football matches, I don’t care how the players take it.

“I want the supporters to enjoy watching us and at this moment in time, they are not so whatever decision I make is that; it’s not a punishment.

“I think the players know that and everyone has responded in the way that I want them to respond, they actually agree with me.

“They know we’ve got to get things right and hopefully it will work out the way we want it to work out.”

Jon Stead is due to be included in the squad that plays the League 1 outfit at Meadow Lane and Sheridan says he’s been eager to get back into action.

He said: “Steady is back in the squad and will be involved but all the players are focused in trying to get out of the rut that we are in.

“He was going to be involved in the reserves game but that got cancelled, I don’t think he will be ready for a start but he will be involved, possibly on the bench.

“He’s been chomping at the bit to get a game.”

Notts County record v Peterborough United

The last time the two teams met was in Notts County’s last season in League 1; on January 24 2015 the Magpies lost 2-1 at home to Peterborough United.

Posh’s Marcus Maddison opened the scoring before Garry Thompson pegged Peterborough back near half-time.

However Christian Burgess scored midway through the second half to ensure that all three points went the way of Peterborough.

The reverse fixture earlier that season at the ABAX Stadium resulted in a 0-0 draw on September 13 2014.
