Video captures driver knocking Nottingham cyclist off bike

A cyclist says he is still seeking justice justice after a video captured the moment a driver knocked him off his bike – but police say there isn’t enough evidence to prove who was at the wheel.

The rider posted the incident on YouTube under the name Reginald Scott, saying he blacked out after the Volvo rammed into the back of his bike.

The car then drove away, leaving him lying on the road close to the London Road roundabout.

On the video of the November 2014 incident, the rider describes: “I received a severe back injury and internal haemorrhaging from the impact. It took 4 months for me to recover from my injuries with a further month of physiotherapy to reach normality.”

I have no idea why the driver did this to me

“To this day I have no idea why the driver did this to me, there was no confrontation, I do not know the driver or the car.”

In a statement, Notts Police said they had established the car was being rented at the time, and that a number of people were entitled to drive it.

They added officers traced a man and a woman who were driving the car on the same day, and they were summoned to court.

But, the force adds, the Crown Prosecution Service said there was not enough evidence to prove which one of them was driving the car at the time of the collision.

The 52-year-old man, from Nottingham, received six penalty points and £150 fine for failing to provide driver details.

A force spokesman said: “While we share the victim’s disappointment at the outcome, we feel the investigating police officer made every effort to ensure that the occupants of the car were found and brought before the courts.”
