Waterlogged pitch delays Stuart Pearce comeback

Forest legend Stuart Pearce will have to wait for his return to the beautiful game after his shock comeback was postponed due to bad weather.

The former Reds and England left back was due to play for non-league Longford AFC in Gloucestershire on Saturday but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Pearce announced the surprise one-game return to playing last month in an effort to promote grass roots football.

Longford have been labelled the worst team in the country after scoring three and conceding almost 200 goals in their opening 19 games putting them firmly bottom of the league.

Pearce will now have to wait until a new date is set for the fixture.

The match against Smiths Athletic wasn’t the only game to fall afoul of the weather. Notts County’s clash against Hartlepool was also called off just before midday.
