There’s plenty going on for families in Notts this August Bank Holiday. Here’s a few of our favourites!

Twinlakes All-Weather Theme Park has endless adventures of family fun while Wheelgate’s new water park and splash land provides a fantastic opportunity to cool off over the weekend – what better way to spend the weekend than to catch some rays and enjoy some amazing water slides and flumes!

Showcase Cinema de Lux

Sit back in the super luxury reclining seats and watch a host of family films at Nottingham’s Showcase Cinema de Lux.

Meet Leonard the Lion from Gulliver’s Kingdom

The Deliveroo Beach at Market Square 

Enjoy a trip to the seaside without leaving the city at Nottingham’s urban beach in the Old Market Square. Lounge on the sandy beach, paddle in the pool or try the ‘Around the World’ swing ride – new for 2016.

Outdoor Theatre at Nottingham Castle

Gates open 5pm

The Lost City Adventure Golf 

10.30am – 11pm (Opens at 10am on Saturday & Sunday)

If you fancy picking up a putter and taking on two indoor 18 hole courses with talking Inca statues and musical landscaping, then this is for you. Located in Nottingham’s Cornerhouse, towering ancient walls complete with writhing snakes and moving rocks transport players into a lost world of epic adventure, where you can discover your inner ‘Indiana Jones’ – and test your putting skills at the same time.

Jango’s Childrens’ Indoor Play Centre 

9.30am – 6.30pm (last entrance 5pm)

Bring your kids down to the largest dedicated indoor play centre in Nottinghamshire, located in Mansfield, where they can explore the massive play structure which has been designed to ensure children of all ages are catered for. The facility provides tons of fun, with obstacles, slides, balls and climbs purposely placed to challenge youngsters and parents alike.

Summer Nights Outdoor Film Screenings at Wollaton Park

Saturday 27 – Bank Holiday Monday 29 August

Film doors open at 7pm (estimated start time 8.30pm)

Summer Nights is a festival of outdoor film screenings in beautiful heritage locations throughout the summer. Kick off your bank holiday weekend with the showing of Mad Max: Fury Road (15) starring Tom Hardy in this operatic in scale tale of exhaust fumes and fire!

On Saturday is the showing of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (12A), celebrating the films 25th Anniversary as Kevin Costner heads back to Sherwood Forest as Robin Hood.

On Sunday Wollaton Hall stars in The Dark Knight Rises (12A) as Wayne Manor! Watch as Tom Hardy stars as Bane, sending Gotham into chaos for the final go-around with Christian Bale’s Batman, breaking his back in the process. One of the most popular screenings is not to be missed.

Finish off the bank holiday weekend with the seventh instalment of the main Star Wars series, The Force Awakens (12A) in an actioned packed, funny sci-fi epic that heads back to the world established in 1977’s Star Wars.

Great Food & Drink Festival at Newstead Abbey 

Saturday 27 – Bank Holiday Monday 29 August

10 – 5pm

The Great Food & Drink Festival will showcase a fabulous array of food and drinks, cookery demo’s, and everything food related. Based in the grounds of Newstead Abbey, it’s set to be a fabulous event celebrating the best in food and drink.

There will be chef demonstrations from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch Simon Rimmer on Saturday, one of Britain’s most acclaimed chef Michael Caines on Sunday and 2014 Great British Bake Off winner Nancy Birtwhistle on Bank Holiday Monday.

Book tickets at the advanced rate of £8.80 (£10 on the day). under 10s are admitted FREE with full paying adults. Tickets are also available to purchase in person from the Nottingham Tourism Centre priced at just £8.

 

Superhero Saturday at New Art Exchange 

11 – 4pm

The fun-filled Superhero Saturday returns! Come dressed as your favourite superhero to grab a free goodie bag. Join a super movement workshop; hear exciting stories (about heroes just like you!); take part in art challenges and tell us about your own super powers!

Steaming Days at Papplewick Pumping Station 

Sunday 28 – Bank Holiday Monday 29 August

11am – 5pm

Echoes of a Gilded Age makes a return visit to Papplewick Pumping Station to deliver another fascinating and informative First World War weekend. This popular event will include a living history encampment, demonstrations and displays and tales from the Home and Western Front.

There will also be regular talks during the day including dramatic presentations and talks on the Conscription Act, The Battle of the Somme, bombs, meeting a Conchie, faith and war and women’s roles. The engines will be in steam from 11am-5pm on both days with tours of the underground reservoir also available.
