The A52 Brian Clough Way towards Derby was closed during the Thursday morning rush-hour after a car caught fire.
Police said at around 5.55am (Thursday January 12), a Peugeot crashed in to the central reservation near the Ockbrook Junction, between the M1 and Derby.
The car caught fire after the collision – but Derbyshire Police said the driver escaped and their injuries are not life-threatening.
The road remained closed until midday to clear away the debris.
Traffic tailed back to the Bardills Island, Nottinghamshire, and Derbyshire Police are advising people to avoid the area where possible.
In a statement, Derbyshire Police said: “We were called just before 6am to reports that a car had struck the central reservation near Borrowash.
“The car, thought to be a Peugeot 206, caught fire following the collision.
“The driver was taken to hospital where her injuries aren’t thought to be life-threatening.
“We would like to thank drivers for their patience while this important work continues to make sure the carriageway is safe for traffic.”
