‘Additional work’ on Station Street will not finish until end of September

Additional work on Station Street including planting trees and installing street lights will not be finished until the end of September.

Some paving will be laid during this time too as workmen could not install it all due to scaffolding having surrounded the station entrance.

This comes after Nottingham City Council announced that work to pedestrianise Station Street was completed ‘on time’ yesterday (Sunday July 31).

Whilst most people are looking forward to the work being finalised, some are concerned about the lack of disabled access on the street.

Jonathan Allington, who works at Zero’s Barber Shop on Station Street, said: “Banning vehicles on Station Street has a detrimental effect on anyone that needs to use a vehicle, such as disabled people.

“If I can’t park here then I’ll be retired because I am myself disabled and need to be able to access my place of work.”

Traffic management will be in force

Nottingham City Council say they are applying the finishing touches to Station Street with traffic restrictions already in place.

A statement from Nottingham City Council said: “Some additional works will take place between August 1 and the end of September.

“Traffic management will be in force with access turning right from Trent Street onto Station Street stopped except for works vehicles and local business parking.

“There will be no access to Station Street from its junction with Carrington Street.”
