A Clifton man who made gunpowder and had a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook in his house has been found guilty of terrorism offences.
Roger Smith, 46, of Summerwood Lane, Clifton, was found guilty of one count of possession of gunpowder and possession of chemicals.
He was also found guilty of possession of a copy of the Anarchy Cookbook (Version 2000), likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58 Terrorism Act 2000.
He was found guilty of the charges by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Thursday November 24).
He also had knives, crossbows and several hundred canisters of camping gas.
Smith was arrested and told police officers that he enjoyed experimenting with chemicals but didn’t have any intention of making explosives.
A police search of Smith’s house in October 2015 uncovered gunpowder along with items suggesting the potential manufacture of explosives prompting the attendance of the Joint Service Ordnance Explosive Disposal.
While on police bail an officer visited Smith to check on his welfare but while he was there, Smith showed him a new copy of the Anarchist’s Cookbook which he had bought for a second time.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with being in possession of Section 58 of the Terrorism Act, however the jury found him not guilty of this offence.
He will be sentenced on December 16 2016.
