Assombalonga named in Forest squad for Blackburn tie

Forest fans rejoice, after being out for 14 months Britt Assombalonga is in the squad for tomorrow night’s game against Blackburn Rovers at the City Ground.

He was first injured during Forest’s 3-0 win against Wigan in February 2015, after scoring 15 goals in 32 appearances.

And it’s clear the Reds have missed the club record signing, as they have the second lowest amount of goals scored in the league this season and currently sit 20th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

On his return, Britt said: “I went with the boys to the last game, I sat and ate with them, it’s just the little things that gives you that peace of mind.

“It’s been a long time but I had to make sure it was right, the right time for me and it does feel a bit surreal, I couldn’t ask for any more than the support I’ve had during this injury.”

With a goalless draw away at Rotherham at the weekend, Forest will be hoping the return of their number nine will help them find the net.

We have to remember how serious the injury was

Coach Andy Reid is happy to have the pacey striker back in contention.

He said: “First and foremost he’s a lovely guy, and the lads love having him around the place.

“He brings a quality that’s undoubted. He’s going to want to get out and play as much as he can, but we have to remember how serious the injury was and give him some protection.”

The Blackburn game will be a tie the Reds are looking to win to guarantee their safety. Rovers haven’t won since march and have failed to score in their last two games.

Ireland international midfielder-turned coach Reid added: “Just to get a win under the belt would be great, and to give the home fans something to cheer about would be nice.

“It’s a good game for us, we are feeling confident, the lads are starting to come to terms with what we are trying to get across to them. We feel the hard work on the training ground is coming to fruition now.”

Forest kick off at 7.45pm on Tuesday evening – to see more of the Britt Assombalonga interview watch Notts TV at 5.30pm, 6pm, 7pm and 10pm on April 18 and 19.
