A group of travellers with ‘at least 10 caravans’ have been issued a notice to leave Lenton Abbey Park by a local authority after setting up camp.

Nottingham City Council have given travellers 24 hours to leave the site just off Priory Roundabout and will pursue a court order if they have not left in time.

Nearby residents have raised concerns about not being able to use the park situated next to the A52 and Woodside Road while the travellers are there.

One local resident, who did not wished to be named, said: “I walked past Woodside Road this morning and saw at least 10 caravans on the Lenton Abbey Park site.

“The site is also used for local football training which I imagine will be stopped until all of that gets sorted out.”

Lenton Abbey Park is also home to bowling greens, tennis courts and a children’s playground.

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “Community Protection are aware of the travellers on Lenton Abbey Park.

“They have been issued with a 24-hour notice to leave and if they remain beyond that 24-hour period we will pursue an eviction order through the Courts.”

Groups of travellers have pitched up at Bestwood Park, Manor Farm Recreation Ground in Toton and on the playing fields at Radcliffe-on-Trent this year in Nottinghamshire.
