A group set up to boost trade in Beeston is being scrapped after businesses voted to stop paying in to it.
Beeston BID will close in December, four years after being set up to attract more shoppers in to the area.
The project involved town businesses paying cash into a pool, which was spent on promotions and improvements.
But it can only operate if voted in through a trader ballot.
The latest vote saw only 87 businesses back it out of 233, meaning it will close on December 31.
Coun Richard Jackson, leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, said: “The BID have worked very hard over the past few years to promote Beeston and the council will continue to support them and local businesses during this transition.
“With a new tram system and redevelopment in the square, Beeston is thriving and we will continue to work with the local community to ensure that the town can continue to grow and be a great place for people to live, work, shop and invest.”
