Boy, 15, released on bail following alleged school hammer attack

Police were called to the Redhill Academy, Arnold, on Monday morning (January 20).
A 15-year-old boy arrested over an alleged hammer attack at a Nottinghamshire school has been released on bail.
Notts Police were called to Redhill Academy, Arnold, shortly after 9.45am on Monday (January 20) after a pupil suffered a head injury. They had allegedly been hit with a hammer.
Officers arrested a 15-year-old at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. On Tuesday afternoon (January 21) Notts Police said the boy had been released on bail pending further inquires.
The injured pupil was taken to hospital for treatment. Police say his injuries aren’t believed to be life-altering.
Earlier on Tuesday (January 21) academy headteacher Mike Hardy released a statement.
“I would like to thank our school community for the way they responded to events in school yesterday morning,” he said.
“Our staff dealt with a difficult situation swiftly and with professionalism, allowing students to continue their school day in a calm and mature manner.
“Thank you to parents who have supported their children and the school today, following what was an isolated but upsetting incident. We are continuing to support anyone affected. We are currently working with the police and are unable to comment further at this stage.”
