Parts of the Broadmarsh Centre had to be closed to shoppers after firefighters were called to a skip fire nearby.
Firecrews arrived at Lister Gate at around 10.40am where a large plume of smoke was billowing from a blazing skip.
The fire was kept under control but the Broadmarsh had to be partially closed due to drifting smoke.
The shopping centre was not affected by the fire despite tweets from onlookers suggesting otherwise.
Intu Broadmarsh has since taken to Twitter to give an update on the centre, where shops are now open as usual.
