The Council House clock and bell system dates back to 1928.

Nottingham City Council are introducing fares on free bus services and increasing council tax by almost five per cent in an attempt to save £27m.

The council are cutting their budget in response to Government funding cuts.

This will mean the commercialisation of local services, introduction of a fare on the Centrelink and Medilink bus services and a reducing cultural grants.

Nottingham City Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Graham Chapman, said: “This Government is placing the burden on the residents and businesses of Nottingham to pick up the bill for local services, while taking away more funds from Nottingham than many richer parts of the country.

“Areas like Nottingham raise less through Council Tax and yet demand for care services is greater.

“The Government’s Council Tax precept for adult social care won’t be enough to meet demand.

“Not only that but because adult social care accounts for a third of our total budget, it squeezes funds even further for other services.”
