A clean-up drive has been running in Balderton to “get people to use the village more”.

Newark and Sherwood authorities are running schemes to clean and tidy specific areas.

The work in Balderton began on Monday (October 14) and will run until Friday (October 18).

In June this year, Southwell, one of the previous targets of the programme, saw activities from litter picking and debris removal to graffiti cleaning and road sweeping.

Cllr Paul Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Community Relations at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “We have a focus on Balderton to cut the grass clean the signs and make it an area that people can be really proud of.

“Once we have a clean up like this people help to maintain it because they are really proud of the area.”

Balderton Parish Council will also be doing grounds work and litter picking around Balderton Lake, with support from the District Council to collect the rubbish.

Councillor Jean Hall, Co-Chair of Balderton Parish Council said: “I’m really pleased I know we have a lot of village people who do litter picks so things like this will enhance that.

“We are trying to get people to use the village more,” she added.

The District Council encourages residents to help keep their communities clean by reporting areas where they spot issues such as littering, graffiti or any other environmental offences on their website.
