A cockroach-infested restaurant has been shut down by a court order.

Kirkuk Restaurant on Radford Road, Hyson Green, was first closed last week after an inspection by food safety officers.

During a search of the restaurant, which had previously been rated four out of five for food hygiene, groups of insects were found in traps as well as on the floor and on work surfaces.

The owner was given an emergency closure notice and Nottingham City Council’s environmental health team has now secured a court order to ensure the restaurant stays closed until further notice.

Evidence was presented at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where it was ruled the venue could only reopen in future if officers were satisfied health and safety risks had been eradicated.

One customer had posted on Kirkuk’s Facebook page last week saying that after a ‘nice fresh meal’, her sister had gone to use the toilet and discovered a cockroach.

The pests can contaminate food by vomiting and defecating on it.

Notts TV was unable to contact the restaurant’s owners for comment.
