Rushcliffe Borough Council is planning to introduce changes to fees in all its West Bridgford car parks.
The council has three car parks in the town on Bridgford Road, Gordon Road and the Nursery Car Park on Albert Road.
Currently motorists pay £1.50 for up to two hours parking, and £3.50 for up to three hours.
If approved, the new plans would see the introduction of shorter-stay fees including 50p for up to 30 minutes stay, £1 for up to an hour and £1.50 for 90 minutes.
Councillors are discussing the changes on Tuesday night.
The authority says it is planning the changes as part of supporting the local economy and in response to feedback from residents.
It has also upgraded its car parks with better lighting and resurfacing, in addition to more flexible ticket machines that allow payment through cards and contactless.
Councillor John Cottee, Portfolio Holder for Community Services said: “The West Bridgford car parks are for shoppers, and residents have told us that they want to be able to just nip to the bank without having to pay £1.50.
“We’ve listened and have created this new proposed charging structure to suit those who just pop in to use the shops.
“For those who are having a meal or taking a more leisurely stroll around the wonderful range of stores, it will only cost a reasonable £3 for up to 3 hours.”
The final decision on whether to approve the proposed new parking charges will be made at Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Full Council meeting on Thursday, March 2, and would be introduced from April 2017.
The price of parking on a Sunday in Nottingham city centre is also set to change – however the City Council will not release details of the proposed tariffs until next month.
