An existing darts retail business in a Mansfield Woodhouse industrial park may turn into a licensed venue.
Mansfield Cues and Darts, located in Unit 5, Block 1, Old Mill Lane Industrial Estate, already sell darts and pool accessories to customers, allowing them to try out their kit on available boards on site.
Lee Stacey, joint-owner of the shop, has submitted an application to Mansfield District Council requesting to change the premise usage to include a licensed bar.
If approved, the site would still continue to sell darts equipment and accessories but become a communal darts venue selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
In supporting documents to the council, the applicant believes the specialised darts shop would be a “valuable addition to the local community”.
The document reads: “We anticipate a moderate but consistent flow of customers. The maximum number of customers we expect at any given time is approximately 30.
“The shop’s layout will be designed to comfortably accommodate this number, ensuring a pleasant experience without overcrowding.”
If approved, the owner will look forward to the site being able to be used by youth dart academies.
Mr Stacey said: “Because we sell darts and snooker equipment, we are going to expand it and put some dart boards in there so people can come play and [we’ll have] involvement with kids clubs.
“When people come down and play they will have the choice to have an alcoholic or soft drink.
“It’s for all ages, it’s not just for adults, it’s for up-and-coming children as well.
“We’ll get involved with darts academies put together for children who play certain nights a week and play each other.”
Mr Stacey has also said that they have acquired two units next to their shop, which will serve as ‘Mansfield Golf’, due to open in around a month’s time.
This shop will include two golf simulators, where people will have the opportunity to try golf inside.
Business hours at the darts shop would run from 10am to 10pm Monday to Sunday.
Mansfield District Council will decide on this application at a later date.
