Fans have said they are cautious over the latest takeover rumours linking Notts County with a former managing partner of the New York Yankees.
Negotiation talks are reported to be progressing between the club and a consortium led by Josepeh Molloy, the former son-in-law to George Steinbrenner, the billionaire who owned the Yankees baseball team for 37 years until he died in 2010.
LGBT Pies Co-Founder, Steven Grocock says he is wary over the reports.
“This takeover would be amazing but we have been burnt before,” he said.
“The old saying goes ‘don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched’ and as a Notts fan I don’t expect anything to happen until it does.
“That said this isn’t the most bizarre story to come out of Meadow Lane in the last decade.”
Current Notts County owner Ray Trew put the Magpies up for sale in February.
Mr Grocock added: “A major investment would be a massive coup, not only for the club but for Nottingham.
“You only have to look as what’s been achieved at Manchester City and the investment there to see what a positive effect it can have.
“The investment would be almost certain to propel Notts up the leagues.”
Stephen is also an avid fan of the MLB and has seen the New York Yankees play live.
“The crowds in baseball are a completely different ball game to football in England and in my opinion it’s something that could be incorporated,” he said.
“The game is more of a second thought, with fan zones, build-ups and break entertainment.”
LetsTalkNotts vlogger Michael Riordan added: “Personally I do not know what to believe, we will have to see what happens.
“If he has the right motive and determination I will be happy, any money is only a bonus in my opinion.
“Every takeover has risk and we got unlucky with Munto but I am willing to take that risk again and hopefully it works out this time.”
Molloy joined the MLB side in 1988 where he was unanimously approved as the sides managing general partner in 1992.
“we have the history and stadium to belong there”
Tom Stevens follows Notts home and away, and says he American could be the right fit for the Mapgies.
“I’m delighted, it’s just what we need to get the enthusiasm back to Meadow Lane,” he said.
“With the right management and budget we could certainly be aiming for the Championship, we have the history and stadium to belong there.
“I’m aware the MLB is a massive sport known all over the world with Yankees being by far the biggest club, and one of the biggest sporting clubs in the world.”
He added: “It’s great that being the world’s oldest professional club in the world appealed to them and hopefully means they wouldn’t mess with that by changing kit colour or stadium name.
“But if it meant fighting for a place in the Premier League I could accept change.”
