An elderly driver who died in a crash involving a car said to be going the wrong way down the M1 has been named as Nottingham man Albert Kenneth Newman.
Mr Newman, 87, was at the wheel of a blue Mazda Premacy which collided with a white Ford transit van in the early hours of Monday near junction 24.
Leicestershire Police say they received reports of a car going the wrong way down the southbound carriageway just before the crash.
A passenger in the van who also died in the collision, has already been named as Michael Luciw, also from Nottingham.
The driver of the van was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he is still in a stable condition.
Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police on 101.
