Nottingham Forest chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi says the club is awaiting a response from the English Football League on a proposed takeover.
The Kuwaiti is rumoured to be negotiating a deal with a Greek consortium for a majority buy out, with some newspapers reporting a deal with Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis is all but done and dusted.
In a rare public statement issued through the club, Al-Hasawi said: “I appreciate there has been much speculation about the ownership of the club and about my current level of involvement.
“I would like to clarify that it is true that I have been discussing potential investment with different parties, but at this moment in time I cannot confirm any definite deal has been done.
“I have always said I will do what is best for Nottingham Forest and if I decide to make a deal with an investor it will be in the best interests of the club’s future.”
Shortly after he Tweeted: “We are still waiting for a response from the FL (Football League) in order for this deal to happen.”
He also gave an update on the City’s Ground official capacity – currently restricted to just 80 per cent of its seating, or 24,357, over safety concerns.
The limit has been imposed by Nottinghamshire County Council, which is in charge of issuing the ground’s safety certificate.
He added: I would like to apologise to those who could not get a ticket for our opening fixture against Burton due to the situation with our reduced capacity.
“We are confident the matter will be resolved soon.”
He went on to say he was pleased with the club’s business in the transfer market over the summer, with head coach Philippe Montanier overseeing the arrival of eight players.
Notts TV News has contacted the English Football League for details on when a decision will be made on the club takeover and is awaiting a response.
