Five people arrested on suspicion of the murder of a Nottingham taxi driver 30 years ago have been released on bail.

Estham Ul-Haq Ghafoor, 26, of Sherwood Rise, known as Shami to family and friends, was found shot dead in his taxi in Gedling on Tuesday November 22, 1994, in what police described as an ‘execution’.

Following a re-appeal for information, five suspects – four men aged 64, 57, 52 and 51 and a woman aged 47 – were arrested on Wednesday (November 27) in the Sneinton and Bakersfield areas.

On Friday (November 29) Notts Police said all five had since been released on bail while further investigations continue.

The arrests came after a dedicated team of detectives began re-investigating the case.

A press conference was held on Friday, November 22 where the police and Shami’s family, alongside Crimestoppers, appealed for information from the public.

Detectives are still appealing for information on the crime.
