A Nottinghamshire football team has been getting donations of support – including some from league rivals – after vandals wrecked their clubhouse.
Staff at Clipstone FC arrived on Sunday morning (October 29) to find a door shutter ripped off and the clubhouse “completely trashed”.
Brown and red sauce from the kitchen had been squirted onto team photos, TVs had been smashed and cooking equipment broken.
The attack has left the club temporarily unable to host games and repairs will cost thousands of pounds.
But hundreds have already been pledged after pictures of the damage were posted on social media – with Northern Counties East league rivals AFC Mansfield even among those committing cash.
“You expect people to back you, but when you see people people from places like Scarborough putting money towards us and other teams like AFC Mansfield it is a surprise and great to see,” said player Oliver Ashton.
“It’s a small club and we haven’t got much money to be honest, most of the players play for nothing, so the repairs mean it’s money that will have to be pumped back out again, so we’re just so happy for people to be backing the club.”
Nottinghamshire Police are investigating the break-in, which happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday at the ground on Clipstone Road East in the village. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
