Football round up: Disappointing weekend for Nottinghamshire clubs

None of Nottinghamshire’s football elite managed to pick up a win over the weekend despite each one putting in a spirited performance.

A goalless away draw for recently revived Nottingham Forest meant they were the cream of the county’s crop on Saturday, with Notts County being held to a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane and Mansfield Town being beat 1-0 by Bury in their own back yard.

Forest, who are currently experiencing a great run of form under new boss Dougie Freedman, produced a dominant second half display against Leeds United, however they failed to find a winning goal.

Meanwhile, back in Nottingham a Mike Edwards header earned Notts County a draw against Bradford City at Meadow Lane.

Shaun Derry’s men entered the second half of Saturday’s clash 1-0 down after Bradford’s Jon Stead put the visitors ahead with a goal just before half time.

Despite having the disadvantage however, a strong second half display meant the Magpies went home with a point on the board.

Enduring the most dismal result of Nottinghamshire’s teams over the weekend was Mansfield Town, who were beaten 1-0 at home by Bury.

The away side took the lead through an attacking free-kick in the 13th minute, with striker Nathan Cameron heading home from a Nicky Adams delivery.

Adam Murray’s men produced a spirited performance in the second half, however unfortunately for the home crowd it was not enough.
