Forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning for thick fog in Nottinghamshire.

The Met Office says the alert applies from 5pm on Wednesday until midday on Thursday as freezing fog moves in from the west.

Driving conditions are expected to be difficult from Wednesday evening onwards and people are also being warned icy conditions could follow.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Whilst not all areas will have fog, where it does form the visibility could be less than 100 metres.

“Combined with temperatures below freezing, there is also the risk of ice forming on some untreated surfaces, particularly later in the night and early on Thursday morning.

“The fog patches are expected to slowly thin during Thursday, although some patches may persist throughout the day – most likely in a zone from the West Country to Eastern England.”

A yellow weather warning means people should be ‘be aware’ of the risk of disruption, and plan ahead for possible delays.
