Forest boss Freedman pledges to bring in only the best players

“I will try my very best to get them,” pledges Nottingham Forest Dougie Freedman, talking about bringing top players in to the club.

Speaking after he landed Swansea City winger Modou Barrow on loan, the Forest manager said that he has a responsibility to bring the best possible players in to the club.

“The fans at the football club deserve the best,” he added.

“I will not be bringing in here someone that I don’t feel is capable of the expectations put on them.

“I might have to be patient, I might have to take some stick on it in terms of who we are signing and why we are not getting them. I might take that, but I am prepared to do that to wait until I believe we get the right people in.

“It hasn’t always worked for me in the past, that thinking process, but I think it is the best for the football club. It shows that I must have a responsibility to the fans.”

Freedman’s Forest have only lost one out of eight games since he took over last month and head to Elland Road to face 13th place Leeds United on Saturday.

The Reds go in to the away game on the back of a 2-1 win against promotion contenders Middlesbrough and the away side will be looking for another win that could push themselves closer to the play-off zone.

Despite Forest’s hot run of form since Freedman took over, which has included a series of rampant victories, the Scotsman remains unsure about the club’s own promotion chances.

Riding that wave

Commenting, Freedman said that while the team is now away from the relegation pack he still anticipates they will miss out on the play-offs, but he is encouraged by the team’s performances.

“We have got three games in the week, and if we can get some points on the board, there is a likelihood that we will be knocking on the door,” he said.

“Now we seem to be riding that wave of winning games of football, I thought it was a fantastic display against Middlesbrough.

“I thought we got our game plan correct. We attacked at the right moment. The most pleasing thing for me was that their manager after the game said they know exacly what they do.

“That tells me that they do, but they couldn’t do nothing about it. That is so pleasing from my point of view.”
