Henri Lansbury has signed for Villa on a four-and-a-half year deal

Former Forest captain Henri Lansbury has joined Championship rivals Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The Reds confirmed the departure at around noon on Friday (January 20).

The 26-year-old joined Forest in August 2012 after signing from Arsenal and has gone on to make 150 appearances for the Reds, scoring 33 goals.

He signs for Villa on a four-and-a-half year deal.

Lansbury said: “I am delighted to be here at Aston Villa; as soon as I knew Aston Villa were interested, I wanted to come here.

“It’s the size and reputation of the football club that attracted me.

“It’s a big, big name in the English game and I can’t wait to get started here now.”

In a press conference this morning before the deal was confirmed, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce said: “He’s here, he’s had his medical he’s passed that, we’ve agreed personal terms.

“We’re hoping he’s going to train at 10:30 with us this morning so in all respect it looks as if it’s a done deal which I’m pleased about.”

When Lansbury has featured for Forest this campaign his assists have contributed to 40 per cent of the Reds goals in addition to his own.

And the former club captain was rewarded when he was named the Championship Player of the Month in November for helping the Reds to unbeaten league run that month.

In a statement Forest thanked Henri for his time at the club and wished him well for the future.
