Nottingham Forest are set to benefit from the sale of former player and fan Patrick Bamford.

The Grantham-born striker has moved to Middlesbrough from Chelsea on four-and-a-half-year contract for a fee thought to be around £6 million.

However this figure could rise to as much as £10 million depending on certain clauses and the number of appearances.

And Forest are set to benefit from a sell-on clause inserted in the deal that saw Bamford move away from the Reds to the Blues in January 2012.

The 23-year-old began his career with his boyhood club Forest at the age of eight but moved to Stamford Bridge for £1.5 million.

Bamford made only two appearances for Forest and struggled to make an impact in London never making a debut for the first team.

Instead the forward spent time loaned out to MK Dons, Derby County, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Burnley and Middlesbrough.

And it was on Teeside Bamford started to impress as 19 goals in 44 appearances for Boro fired them to the Championship play-off final in 2014/15, securing him Championship Player of the Year in the same season.

It was this successful loan spell that encouraged Middlesbrough to fork out for the striker as they battle to stay in the Premier League.

Forest on the other hand find themselves in a very contrasting situation as they sit just three points above the Championship relegation zone.

Bamford took to Twitter at the weekend to voice concerns over the Reds current plight as a disastrous 24 hours saw Philippe Montanier sacked and the John Jay Moores takeover fall through.

On his move back to the Riverside Bamford yesterday tweeted: “Absolutely over the moon to be back, looking forward to helping this great club in every way I can.”
