A former Huthwaite pub on the site of an 18th century farmhouse could be demolished and replaced by flats.

Halsall Lloyd Partnership, an architect and design company in Nottingham and Liverpool, submitted plans to Ashfield District Council last Thursday (June 19) to build 23 one-bed apartments on the site of the Peacock Hotel in Huthwaite.

The Peacock Hotel, in Main Street, was formerly a pub including residential accommodation closed in May 2024.

The site’s history dates back to the 18th Century as a farmhouse with an orchard.

Developers want to demolish the old building to create a three-storey, L-shaped building with 23 one-bed, two-person flats.

The application says the scheme would keep access for cars from Boots Yard and the pedestrian access from Main Street and Chesterfield Road.

Included in plans are 10 unallocated parking spaces in a “revised car park layout” to the one that already served the pub along with internal cycle storage.

Planning papers say: “The proposed development makes efficient use of a previously developed site that is no longer in commercial use, contributing to local housing supply through a sustainable, well connected location.”

The district council will decide on the plans at a later stage. Developer Halsall Lloyd Partnership said it did not wish to comment at this stage in the planning process.
