A four-month-old puppy has become the latest Nottinghamshire Police recruit after being added to the force’s Dog Section.
The Belgian Malinois, called Taggart, came to the police from a litter of 13 from West Yorkshire.
Taggart’s handler, PC Pete Baxter, has been a dog handler for 15 years.
He said: “In about a year’s time, Taggart will be getting ready to start a training course.
“In the meantime, he will be living with me while I train him and build up his confidence.
“He’s shown great potential so far and I’m looking forward to seeing how much he develops.”
On Tuesday (May 29), PC Baxter introduced him to tracking where he managed to sniff out his food that was hidden around a training field.
Taggart will be a general purpose police dog with tracking a crucial part of his job.
