Fourteen rogue taxi drivers prosecuted in Nottingham

Nottingham Community Protection team has caught and successfully prosecuted 14 people illegally for plying for hire in the city.

The fines including costs have come to nearly £8,000 and between them they have racked up 87 points on their licenses. They will also now face the possibility of having their taxi licenses suspended or even revoked.

Nicola Heaton, Portfolio Holder for Community Services said: “It is imperative that we catch these people and bring them to justice. This is a strong message to others out there who think they can get away with illegally plying for hire in our city.”

Nottingham City Council are urging the public to know their taxi’s before getting inside. They have stated that for safety reasons, people should not be getting into an unmarked taxi.

“Our citizens’ safety is paramount. We will not allow these people to conduct illegal business on our roads.”

– Cllr McDonald, Portfolio Holder for Jobs, Growth and Transport

The City Council have also recently been shortlisted along with eight other cities to look at green technology for cabs and private hire vehicles.
