Gritting lorry involved in city centre road crash

Firefighters, ambulance and police were called to a crash involving a car and city council gritting lorry in Nottingham on Sunday night.

The collision happened at the junction of North Sherwood Street and Forest Road East at 6.31pm (February 4).

Both roads were closed at the crash site while emergency crews helped free a person injured in the car. Police are now investigating what happened.

Both Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City Councils had gritting lorries on the road over the weekend as road temperatures dropped below freezing.

The road was re-opened just before 8pm.

A Nottingham City Council spokesman said: “We can confirm that one of our gritting lorries was involved in a road traffic accident at the junction of North Sherwood Street and Forest Road East on February 4 at 6.31pm.

“The accident is currently being investigated by the police so we can’t comment any further.”
