Heathfield Primary School’s £5.3 million new site delayed

The expansion of Heathfield Primary School in Bulwell has been delayed meaning students will have to wait longer to start their school term there.

The first students set to enter the new school build were meant to begin in September, but due to the the project being delayed they will now have to wait until October.

The new campus will increase the school’s capacity by over 400 places and is a short distance from the school’s existing building in Scotland Road.

Pat Fielding, Director of Education in Nottingham, said: “Work to expand Heathfield Primary School has overrun by a month and I apologise for the disruption this may cause.

“This is a major £5.3 million project that will offer state-of-the-art facilities for our children when it opens in October – and will be one of the largest primary schools in Nottingham.”

Gary Fullwood, Head Teacher at Heathfield Primary, said: “We’ve written to all of the parents to explain that the new school will be open in October – and also to reassure them that we will be accommodating all the Reception children in the Scotland Road building from the start of the school year.

There will be a smooth transition to our new building, which will allow us to expand our high standards to more children in our community.

“The council has invested more than £33 million to make schools bigger and better.”
