Hopes Nottingham-designed flood barrier could save homes

A Notts company is helping to protect homes from flooding with a revolutionary new device it says is more effective than sandbags.

Crocodile Flood Solutions has designed lightweight ‘aluminium sandbags’ that could save people’s homes from flooding.

Sandbags are old and they don’t work

Lee Harriman, director at Crocodile Flood Solutions, Carrington, said: “Sandbags are quite old now, everybody knows they don’t work – and they aren’t environmentally safe.

“You can get much more effective products such as the barriers and we’ve developed a new door, which looks like a standard door, which you wouldn’t be able to tell was a flood door, but the seals and technology stop any water from getting in.”

The frame for the barriers is fixed into a door frame, and and the aluminium slots lock together to create an airtight seal, which is then held together by bolts.

He added: “We’ve had a spate of flash flooding over the last couple of years; even though the Government is giving grants for flooding, it’s not going to stop Mrs Jones down the road’s house from flooding – so it’s about educating people that these products are out there.”
