A takeaway in Hucknall has been branded a ‘danger to the public’ by safety chiefs and has been closed due to a series of food hygiene safety problems.

Environmental health officers inspected Hucknall Family Kebab and Pizza, on 27a High Street in Hucknall, which revealed a number of food safety and hygiene issues.

The officers thought there was a serious risk of harm to the public due to a lack of safe hygiene procedures for preparing food with food handlers displaying a very poor knowledge of food hygiene and safety.

The previous Food Hygiene Rating Score of two was re-rated and the business awarded a score of zero, the lowest score possible under the scheme.

Cllr Nicolle Ndiweni of Ashfield District Council said: “Lack of food hygiene safety procedures can be hugely dangerous for the residents of Ashfield so the work of our Environmental Health Officers is of the highest importance.

“Severe cases such as this simply cannot be ignored due to the potential risk of serious illness or even death when these measures are not followed.”

The Environmental Health Team served Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices on the operators of the establishment.

Mehmet Guler and Hasan Bellikli were prohibited from opening the business for food production until it could demonstrate food served on the premises was safe to eat.

Following the issuing of the Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices, an application was heard at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Friday (August 25) for Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Orders to be made, and Magistrates agreed to make the orders.

The business cannot re-open until the council issues the business with a certificate, confirming they are satisfied the business can prepare food hygienically.
