Nottinghamshire Police are increasing their presence in the city centre ahead of a planned World Day for Laboratory Animals this weekend.
Also known as World Lab Animal Day, the protest is observed every year on April 24 with demonstrations and protests opposing the use of animals in research.
And the force is putting plans in place to provide a safe environment for those attending.
Notts Police have also said they will keep people living, working, visiting and travelling in and around the city centre safe while helping to keep disruption to a minimum.
A spokesperson for the force said: “While there’s no evidence to suggest any risk to members of the public going about their everyday business, you may see an increased police presence as we look to maintain security and offer reassurance.
“Our priority on the day will be to ensure the safety of you – the public, to keep disruption to a minimum as we look to facilitate a lawful and peaceful protest, to deal positively with any criminal activity and to ensure that other planned events and activities go ahead uninterrupted.”
The event will also coincide with Nottingham Forest’s last home match of the season against Bristol City at the City Ground with kick-off at 3pm on Saturday (March 28).
Police are advising supporters of both clubs to allow extra travel time.
If you have any concerns about any activity you see or believe a crime has been committed, you are urged to speak to an available officer of call Notts Police using the 101 emergency number.
