The mystery around Notts actor Joe Dempsie’s character in Game of Thrones has only deepened with the release of a compelling season six trailer.
West Bridgford actor Joe plays skilled blacksmith Gendry in the hit television series, which has developed a worldwide cult following.
A key character in the first three seasons of the show, Gendry has now not been seen since he escaped in a rowing boat after being imprisoned by Stannis and Melisandre.
Gendry is the illegitimate son of Robert Baratheon, and a secret heir to the throne of Westeros.
His absence has sparked a rash of online rumours as to when, and if, he could re-emerge and play a major role in the show’s twisting plot lines.
The season six tease has caused a storm among fans but has no sign of Gendry – prompting fans to come up with their own theories on Twitter;
Will Gendry be back for Season 6? My headcanon is he’s the legitimate son of Robert Baratheon and Cersei Lannister. #GameofThrones

I’m not asking for much, just a season 6 trailer. And to know what happened to Gendry. #GameOfThronespic.twitter.com/vB3nhvr2tD

Dempsie was trained to act at Nottingham’s Television Workshop and got his first big break in E4’s Skins in 2007.
When asked if Gendry would be returning, Dempsie has previously said he has “absolutely no idea”, and producers of the show are known for keeping even the actors themselves in the dark about the long-term fate of their characters.
