Lady Bay Bridge update: Man arrested

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a blade following an incident on the Lady Bay Bridge.

The Bridge was reopened after being closed for more than six hours this morning after safety concerns for the man who was discovered on the bridge.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of an assault on September 2014 and is currently in police custody.

Nottinghamshire police tweeted at around 1pm today: “Man arrested on suspicion of possession of bladed article following Lady Bay Bridge closure. It’s since reopened.”

The A6011 Lady Bay Bridge, which is one of the main roads into Nottingham city centre, was closed at around 5am this morning by Nottinghamshire Police.

Police tweeted at 11.30am today: “Lady Bay Bridge has now re-opened. Thank you to everyone for your patience this morning.”

The closure between A6520 Radcliffe Road and the Meadow Lane junction during morning rush hour caused delays to traffic and bus services in Nottingham as police turned people away from the area.

The incident meant pressure was put on other routes around West Bridgeford including Trent Bridge and Radcliffe Road.

There were also severe delays to Navy 1-4 and Green 5-11 buses with some services taking more than twenty minutes to travel along Trent Boulevard.
