There are major plans for hundreds of new homes to be built alongside a new school fit for almost 1,000 pupils in Nottinghamshire.

Avant Homes has applied to build 473 homes on Bramcote College’s former playing fields off Coventry Lane.

The application for the homes runs alongside another plan for a new school site for Bramcote College on Moor Lane in the village.

The homes would be built on a 12.95 hectare site – equivalent to 24 football pitches. Thirty per cent of the homes will be affordable if plans are approved.

The playing fields are no longer used by the school and are now known to be used by dog walkers.

The replacement of the school was listed in Broxtowe’s local plan for development – and now Avant Homes has submitted plans for housing to be built alongside the new school.

The application for the school by The White Hills Park Foundation Trust was submitted in September – which would roughly double the number of pupil spaces on the school roll.

Councillor Hannah Land (Lib Dem), who represents the area, said the development had been “a long time coming”.

She said: “The school has been earmarked for development for a new school for the best part of a decade.

“I’ve had some contact from residents about concerns about the access to the development.

“I would also like to see more affordable housing on the site and more consideration in terms of aims for zero carbon.

“I welcome the prospect of having a new school facility built for Bramcote.

“It’s a big development for the area and Bramcote has taken quite a hit on its greener sites but they’ll limit the amount of further development that needs to go on in the borough.

“There isn’t much land left and we want to protect green belt sites.”

Avant Homes said in planning documents that the site would include two, three and four and five bedroom homes as well as green space and a play area.

They said: “The proposed layout creates a well-connected scheme that is easy to move around on foot/bicycle.

“The proposed development includes an equipped area of play within the site as well as a series of smaller green spaces which offer opportunities for social interaction.

“A series of green spaces throughout the development create memorable spaces which aid way finding throughout the scheme.”

Broxtowe Borough Councillors will consider the plans at a future committee meeting.
