Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman killed in collision

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died in a collision in Nottingham city centre.

Police say, the woman, who was a pedestrian, was killed in the incident on North Sherwood Street, close to Peel Street, at 10.10am today (January 29).

The arrested man, 56, has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The woman has not yet been named by officers.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said they had been called to help cut one man free from a car involved during the incident.

A Notts Police spokesman said: “Anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments before it happened, is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police.”

Police forensics staff examined the scene of the crash, alongside specialist road collision investigators, and both roads were closed.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “Two crews from #LondonRoad are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on #PeelStreet in Nottingham where a car has been in collision with a wall.

“Firefighters are working to extricate one male casualty and are working alongside @nottspolice and @EMASNHSTrust.”
