Man charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with fatal collision on A1

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in relation to a fatal collision on the A1 near Newark.

Dorel Galan, 38, of London Road, Grays in Essex, has also been charged with two counts of using a false instrument, contrary to the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981.

Officers were called to the collision on the northbound carriageway, which involved six vehicles, at around 7.55am on March 9.

The driver of one of the vehicles, 52-year-old Ian Newell, from Grantham, Lincolnshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The air ambulance was also deployed.

Another man – the driver of one of the lorries – was taken to the QMC by air ambulance for treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

A woman was also taken to hospital by ambulance and three other men were treated for their injuries at the scene.

Galan will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on October 5.
