A man has died after collapsing while taking part in a public parkrun at the Forest Recreation Ground in Nottingham.

The runner became ill during the event on Saturday morning and was helped by other runners and run volunteers.

Ambulance crews arrived soon afterwards and took the man to the Queen’s Medical Centre, but he was pronounced dead by medics.

The 5k free run is held every Saturday morning at 9am at the rec.

Organisers wrote on the event’s Facebook page: “You may be aware a parkrunner collapsed at Forest Rec yesterday.

“Several parkrunners attempted to resuscitate him, as did an ambulance crew. However we are very sorry to have to report the sad news that all efforts were unsuccessful.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with friends and family for their loss.

“We would also like to acknowledge and thank all those who assisted yesterday.”

Notts Police said they were also called but the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be handed to the coroner.

Roger Williams posted on the event’s Facebook page: “Desperately sad news. I can attest to the fact that the runner received very prompt CPR from people immediately on the scene and that blue lights attended promptly.

“There was a palpable sense of shock among the volunteer team afterwards.

“My thoughts are with the volunteer team as well as the family and friends of the deceased. I’m confident everybody did everything they could to prevent this very unhappy outcome.”
