A man fired a sawn-off shotgun in an Old Basford street when a dispute with a rival family boiled over.

Former rapper Leon McGuire, 24, has now been jailed for six and a half years for opening fire during the stand-off in Overdale Road in April.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he fired the weapon twice during the row at around 3.15pm, after a group of people, some armed with bats, gathered on the street.

Police were called after people overheard the shots and the street was sealed off for hours after the incident on April 11. A 22-year-old man escaped with minor injuries.

Detective Constable Colin Kirkup of Nottinghamshire Police said: “McGuire used a shotgun in mid afternoon in a residential area without any consideration as to the risk of harm.

“We are pleased with the sentencing as it sends the message that firearms offences of any kind will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire.”

Officers cordoned off almost the entire length of Overdale Road.

McGuire previously pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence as well as violent disorder but was found guilty by a jury in a ten-day trial.
