A man has been jailed for four years after sexually assaulting a woman in the Arboretum area of Nottingham.

Milhai Vasille Ciprian, 25, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and actual bodily harm at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (August 14).

Acting Detective Sergeant Lee Kirk said: “We really want to thank those members of the public who contacted us with information.

“This was a real team effort which enabled us to quickly find the man responsible and put him behind bars in a matter of weeks.

“We hope this sends the message out that this sort of behaviour is not tolerated in Nottinghamshire and we will do everything we can to find those responsible.”

A woman reported she had been assaulted in Waverley Street at the junction with Raleigh Street in the early hours of Saturday 8 July.

The 22-year-old had been walking home from work when she was followed, grabbed by Ciprian and forced to the ground before being assaulted.

She then managed to fight him off and run away.

Officers launched an investigation and Ciprian was identified through a media appeal using CCTV images.

He was subsequently arrested and charged.
